Rainfall in recent weeks has not been enough to end the drought. Much of the water was first absorbed by vegetation, which uses it before it can seep deeper into the ground. Groundwater reserves therefore remain insufficiently replenished, highlighting the gap between visible rainfall and the lasting recovery of underground reserves.
