West Nile virus detected in birds in Limburg for first time

The West Nile virus has been detected in birds in Limburg for the first time. The birds are several canaries belonging to a hobby breeder from the area around the provincial border with Antwerp. Mosquitoes transmit the virus, which has spread farther north in Europe in recent years. No human infections have been detected in Belgium so far.
