The European Committee for the Prevention of Torture, affiliated with the Council of Europe, is warning of serious problems in Belgian prisons. It believes these conditions risk exposing detainees to inhuman and degrading treatment. According to the committee, they could also undermine the Belgian criminal justice system as a whole.
