Dutch, French and German are all official languages of Belgium. The third one surprises people. Around 79,000 Belgians live in the German-speaking Community. It is nine municipalities in the east, near the German border, split between the cantons of Eupen and Sankt Vith. It has its own parliament and government, with real powers over education and culture. It is one of the smallest entities in Europe to have a parliament of its own.
