A good number of you reading this didn't grow up in Belgium. You moved here — for work, for study, for someone — and you follow Belgian news because it's where your life is. But it isn't the only place you check.
So: you can now pick a home country, and get its headlines on their own tab.
It works the way the rest of shortnews does. Sixty words or fewer. A real source, credited. No account, no paywall. Open the app and your country sits as its own chip next to For You — tap it and you're in a feed of nothing but news from home.
The part we thought hardest about is what doesn't happen. Your home country's stories never appear in your Belgian feed, never turn up in Today, and never fire a notification at you. Belgium stays exactly as it was. This is a second tab, not a blend — because "some news from home, mixed into everything else, at random" is a worse product than either feed on its own.
🇲🇦 Morocco is where we're starting, with Yabiladi — a Moroccan newsroom that has spent years writing for Moroccans living abroad, which is more or less exactly the job we're asking of it. Because Yabiladi publishes in French, French readers get it in French; everyone else gets it in English. 🇮🇳 India (The Hindu) and 🇯🇵 Japan (The Japan Times) are there too, both in English.
Every country names its source on the feed, and tells you when it reads in a different language from the rest of the app. You should never have to guess where a story came from.
Three countries is a deliberately small start. We would rather run a few feeds properly than launch twenty and let half of them quietly go stale — which, candidly, is a thing we have now built an alarm for.

You'll find it in Settings → News from home, or the app will offer it to you next time you open it. If it isn't for you, skip it and nothing changes.
