First locally acquired West Nile virus infections detected in Flanders

For the first time, locally acquired West Nile virus infections have been detected in Flanders. The Department of Health reports five probable cases; one infected person has been hospitalized. The cases are from regions including Antwerp and Flemish Brabant, where infected horses and birds have also been reported. The department says the risk remains low.
