shortnews.be exists because keeping up with Belgium takes longer than it should.

The Belgian press publishes in Dutch and French. If you live here and read English, following the country day to day means either working through a second language or waiting for one of the few English outlets to decide a story matters. Neither is a good answer for someone with four minutes between the commute and the front door.

So we read the Belgian press continuously, group the stories several outlets are covering into one, condense each to the essential facts in 60 words or fewer, and publish it in all three languages at once. Roughly 500 briefs a day. If you moved here from India, Japan or Morocco, the news from home gets its own tab, in the same format.

Who runs it

shortnews.be is an independent, self-funded project based in Brussels, Belgium, published by Anmol Dubey. It launched in February 2026 and is free, with no subscription and no account required. Revenue is advertising inside the app. Nobody pays for coverage, and nothing in the feed is sponsored.

What we publish, and what we do not

• Summaries. A 60-word brief of a story reported by a named Belgian outlet, with a link to their reporting. We never republish anyone's article text.
• Our own reporting and explainers. Stories we write ourselves, collected at Our reporting.
• The daily recap. One page per day of what mattered in Belgium, at Belgium Yesterday.
• Standing answer pages. Questions Belgium asks again and again — is there a strike today, is tomorrow a holiday — kept current rather than rewritten as a fresh article each time.
• Curiosity cards and reader polls, which are ours.
