Weed burning goes wrong: medical emergency plan after fire in Laarne

A fire at Hof ten Kouter residential care centre in Kalken, near Laarne, led to the evacuation of about 30 residents and 10 staff on Wednesday afternoon. An employee was burning weeds in the courtyard when insulation in a wall caught fire. A medical emergency plan was declared for a short time. Residents and staff were temporarily evacuated.
