1 in 3 Belgians has fatty liver: 5 subtypes

One in three Belgians has fatty liver, but the risk varies by patient. US researchers distinguish five subtypes, including forms involving high blood pressure and genetic predisposition without obesity. Liver specialist Lukas Van Melkebeke (UZ Leuven) says this could enable more targeted follow-up. He says screening a third of the population is not feasible.
