Archaeologists discover medieval cemetery beneath Ghent Vlasmarkt

A trial excavation beneath Ghent’s Vlasmarkt has revealed a medieval cemetery, according to archaeology firm BAAC. Researchers estimate the site could contain up to 240 skeletons. The discovery came before planned tree planting after roadworks. Ghent has paused the planting and says no further excavations will take place at the location for now.
