Nature and Forest burns dry heather at Mechelse Heide

This morning, the Agency for Nature and Forest carried out a controlled burn of one hectare of dry heather at Mechelse Heide in Maasmechelen. The fire brigade supervised the operation. Summer drought had killed the heather, making it particularly flammable. Regional manager Karen Jacobs says the measure should reduce the risk of new wildfires.
