Odor nuisance at Tienen sugar refinery comes from settling ponds after all

According to the Department of Environment, the odor nuisance around the Tienen Sugar Refinery comes from the factory’s settling ponds. Inspectors investigated on site after several neighbors complained before the beet campaign had even started. Spokesperson Ann Heylens blames not the beets, but the dry and warm late summer.
