Sinking ship Nominoë claimed five Blankenberge rescuers’ lives in 1889

On 28 November 1889, the French sailing ship Nominoë ran aground off Blankenberge. Five rescuers died while trying to help the crew. Twenty-year-old Antoinette de Vos witnessed the events at close range and described them in a letter to her half-sister. Collector Nicolas Vermoortele now preserves the letter.
