On Thursday evening, a traffic check in Lanaken ended in a shooting incident. An officer from the Lanaken-Maasmechelen police zone fired at a fleeing car but missed the vehicle. During the ensuing chase, the car crashed and an officer was injured. Police arrested the fleeing driver shortly afterwards.
Police found Mario Bergerie, 60, seriously injured on the platform at Waarschoot station in Lievegem on Tuesday morning. According to his brother Peter and sister-in-law Christiane, two 16-year-old boys from an institution had severely assaulted him. A blood trail stretched for 10 metres. Bergerie is in hospital and is still fighting for his life.
Midfielder Sofyan Amrabat announced on Instagram Tuesday that he no longer wants to play for Morocco while Mohamed Ouahbi is the national team coach. Police issued a wanted notice on Wednesday to find Smail Ouennas, at the request of the Brussels Public Prosecutor’s Office. The 39-year-old man is interned for attempted murder at Les Marroniers psychiatric centre in Tournai, Hainaut. The notice is intended to help the authorities locate him quickly.
